New Grampian Food Forum Chairman ‘Moooves’ In

We have great news in the Mitchells family, Keith has been appointed as Steering Group Chairman of the Grampian Food Forum.

The Grampian Food Forum is a partnership comprising senior members of the food and drink industry in the North East of Scotland and the main development agencies in the area, and provides an opportunity for companies from different sectors to learn from each other and to exchange ideas.

Keith said: “I am delighted to take on the position as I see the food and drink industry as a valuable contributor to the local economy. The Grampian Food Forum, which was established in 1993, has a great story to tell and I am keen to encourage food and drink businesses to get involved and benefit from the well established network of contacts that has been built up”.

His right hand lady will not be his wife Judy, however, it will be Claire Rennie, founder of Berry Scrumptious, an innovative local business producing berry flavoured confectionery using their own fruit from the farm near Fraserburgh and now a new range of Summerhouse Drinks.

According to the “North-east Food and Drink Sector Survey 2014” the industry continues to deliver premium products and services and supports around 22,000 jobs in the area.

This will only increase as 2015 is the Year of Food and Drink and the Grampian Food Forum is preparing for a busy year including VisitScotland Expo and Roots Europe Conference

Bringing many visitors both from abroad and in the UK to the area who will sample the quality produce that is readily available, so Keith and Claire will have their hands full.

The GFF runs many different events such as the Innovation Awards, the Dining Club, and is also a partner in the Taste of Grampian one-day food and drink festival, which takes place on Saturday, 7 June.

This is where we were approached by one of Paul Hollywood’s staff which led to our oatcakes and Judy being on national television, so this event holds a great place in our hearts and Keith is very proud to be a part of it.

We are proud of Keith, and Keith is proud of this honour and can’t wait to get to work as the new Grampian Food Forum Chairman!

What a Delicious Taste of Grampian

We would like to say a huge Mitchells Dairy thank you to all our wonderful customers and friends who stopped by to see us last Saturday at Taste of Grampian, the one-day food and drink festival.

Taste of Grampian is always a fantastic day out, and this year's event, which took place at the Thainstone Centre in good old Inverurie, was certainly no different.

Our stand was situated just underneath the clock in the main concourse, and although it was incredibly busy, we were able to keep everyone happy with samples of Mitchells milk, our handmade oatcakes, and of course, our delicious Mitchells ice cream.

We managed to have a look around and see celebrity chefs Simon Rimmer, Nick Nairn and Lady Claire MacDonald doing demos, as well as get the chance to sample the wide range of high quality food and drink products from Grampian.

Don't get us wrong, we know more than most how good the produce and producers in Aberdeenshire are - but Taste of Grampian just showcases how lucky we really are.

While we were having a look around, we also got a chance to read a new publication, Aberdeenshire Larder, which launched at the event. Aberdeenshire Larder is part of The List series of food and drink publications, featuring places to eat and where to buy the best produce from the region.

Mitchells has a listing in the publication, and if you want to have a read and find more of the best food and drink in Aberdeenshire, they are available for free from our shop and tearoom.

You can see some of our pictures from the day below, including one of Judy and the aforementioned Mr. Rimmer, who happened to tweet us afterwards saying 'it's always a treat coming to Grampian!'.

It is indeed Simon, it is indeed!

Mitchells Taste Success

The richness and diversity of the north-east larder was celebrated at the Grampian Food Forum Innovation Awards last week - and we were absolutely thrilled to get our hands on an award!

Over 60 entries from 23 food and drink companies were sampled and assessed by the judging panel; Peter Bruce, managing director of Entier Limited, Lorna Murray, Local Food Sourcing and Technical Manager for Asda and Simon Cousins, series producer of BBC Scotland’s Landward.

Following the judging process, over 200 guests, including our Keith, attended the awards dinner, which was held at the Marcliffe Hotel and Spa in Aberdeen.

And beyond our wildest expectations, we received the Taste of Grampian Local Independent Retailer of the Year, which was awarded to a retail outlet that ‘champions local food and drink and supports other local food and drink producers'!

Winning this prestigious award, which was sponsored by SAC Food & Drink and Taste of Grampian was an honour, and is all thanks to the fabulous local producers and suppliers that have supported us over the last year.

If you follow us on Facebook or Twitter, you will have noticed that the reaction has been incredible - our feeds have been going absolutely crazy since we won!

Thank you so, so much for all the congratulations. We are incredibly proud to have won, and we are equally as proud to say that we offer a true taste of the North East.

PS. Here's some photos from the awards ceremony. Doesn't Keith look happy!?
