Move over Mrs Markham

Mitchells are selling tickets (now available at shop check out) for Spotlight Theatre's 2012 Production of  ‘Move over Mrs Markham’.

‘Move over Mrs Markham’ is a typical British farce written by Ray Cooney and John Chapman.  The play is set in the late 1960's, within the London flat of Philip and Joanna Markham. Philip is a straight-laced publisher of children's books and shares the ground floor office with his partner, Henry Lodge.  Philip has reluctantly agreed to let Henry borrow his apartment for the evening to 'entertain' his latest girlfriend. Unbeknown to Philip, his wife Joanna has been persuaded by Henry's wife, the neglected Linda, to let her borrow the apartment that very same evening, so she can 'entertain' her lover.  But what nobody knows is, that Alistair, the Interior Designer, who has been decorating the apartment for the past three months, has his own plans for the flat that very evening. Filled with mistaken identities, embarrassing situations and risque remarks it is no surprise that confusion and chaos ensue.

Performances are in Inverurie Town Hall on Thursday 10th and Friday 11th May with tickets at £8 (£6 concessions). There is also a preview performance on Thursday 10th May with all tickets priced at £5. Doors open at 7pm with curtain up at 7:30pm.

You can also grab pre-performance suppers at The Tearoom which you can book by phoning us on 01467 621389.

Mitchells recipe: Raspberry Sponge Pudding with Whisky Cream.

At Mitchells we are all self confessed foodies and we are proud to stock a huge range of locally produced food products. Given our love for food and cake we wanted to share a tasty recipe for Raspberry Sponge Pudding with Whisky Cream.

It is a a tasty pudding to perfectly finish off any meal. The raspberry flavour is deliciously and the whisky cream gives it a little kick. Why not try it for yourself? Why not post photo of the finished article (preferably pre-eating) and post it on our Facebook wall?
Ingredients
  • 3 heaped tbsp raspberry jam
  • 300g fresh raspberries
  • 175g unsalted butter
  • 75g soft light brown sugar
  • 75g caster sugar
  • 3 large eggs - beaten
  • 4 tbsp Scotch Whisky
  • 225g self-raising flour
  • 300ml Mitchells Double Cream

Method
  • Pre-heat the oven to gas mark 2, 300°F (150°C).
  • Thoroughly grease a 2 litre pudding basin with butter, then line the base with a greaseproof paper disc. Spoon the jam into the bottom of the basin and spread evenly, then arrange the raspberries in a single layer on top – allowing them to come slightly up the side of the bowl.
  • Beat together the butter, soft brown sugar and caster sugar until very light and fluffy, and then gradually beat in the eggs and 2 tbsp of the whiskey.
  • Fold the flour into the creamed mixture, carefully spoon it on top of the raspberries and spread evenly. Cover the pudding basin with a sheet of foil, pleated in the middle, and secure with string. Steam the pudding for 1 and half to 1 3 quarter hours, until well risen.
  • While the pudding is cooking, whisk the remaining whisky with the Mitchells double cream until it holds soft peaks – adding a teaspoon of caster sugar if wished.
  • Spoon into a serving bowl, cover and refrigerate until serving. Carefully un-mould the pudding onto a serving dish, garnish with mint leaves and serve hot accompanied by the whisky cream.

Mitchells Oatcakes- it's a family thing...

Mitchells wholesome oatcakes are hand baked on a traditional open girdle using locally grown oats and a splash of Mitchells milk. We are extremely proud of the history behind the recipe as it is the same today as it was when  first used by Great Granny Mitchell in the 1920s.

They are really popular, so much so that we have taken on board your suggestions to make them available to buy online! You can stock up on you supply of our oaty treats by visiting our very own Mitchells online shop.
They are simply delicious spread with honey or jam, paired with your favourite cheese, stovies or soup.

Available in Great Granny’s original recipe and now also available made with locally produced cold pressed rapeseed oil (the new health fad!!) and we occasionally make them with Parmesan cheese.

We’ve also tried adding whisky to our recipe and dipping them in chocolate. Do you have any suggestions on new flavours for us to try? How do you like to eat your oatcakes? We'd love to hear your suggestions so visit our Facebook page and leave a comment or why not send us a tweet @MitchellsDairy

An exclusive look into Downie's of Whitehills

Downies of Whitehills are a family owned fish processing business that has been in existence for more than 130 years. Situated on the shores of the Moray Firth, their factory & shop attract customers from far and wide to sample the very best that Downies offer in the way of prime quality Scottish seafood.

Alan Downie, the Managing Partner, goes to the fish markets in either Fraserburgh or Peterhead on a daily basis to bring the best of the catch back to Whitehills for processing in our EU approved premises.

With Alan Downie going to the markets daily, this ensures that we can offer all of our fish products at very competitive prices in comparison to some of our competitors. By undertaking the whole procedure from the market place through to the customer, Downies have the most competitive prices available to all of our customers, even better than the supermarkets with their superior buying power.

To ensure that as many customers have access to these excellent prices, Downies of Whitehills have opened a new retail outlet within Mitchell's Dairy in Inverurie where fresh supplies are delivered daily. The members of staff at our new shop are more than happy to arrange for orders to be taken for any unusual requests as we pride ourselves on being able to source a variety of seafood given plenty of notice.
