If you have been on the Mitchells Dairy Facebook page recently, you will have noticed our locally grown Polyanthus Plants, which come in at just £1.25 each! They are really bright and beautiful - and are sure to put a smile on your mum's face this Sunday.

If your mum isn't a keen gardener, our lovely hardwood tea light holders could be the perfect gift. We have written about them before on our blog, but we really think these would make a delightful Mother's Day gift.

Ready, Steady... Meal!

Most of you will know that Mitchells Dairy offers a wide range of delicious products in our Dairy Tearoom and Grocery - but did you know we also offer home baking and ready-made meals?

Cooked on the premises using fresh local ingredients with no added preservatives, our ready-made meals really are 'home cooking' - except without the work for you!

From mince, haggis, stew tatties and veg, fish pie, macaroni cheese, chicken curry, sausage and mash - Mitchells' meals are popular with customers of all ages.

All the beef for our home made steak pies, stews, stovies, mince and lasagne comes from Presly & Co Butchers in Oldmeldrum, who buy direct from local farms - so we can honestly say it’s a mere 25 food miles from farm to shop!

So, whether it’s a quick meal in a busy schedule, an unexpected lunch or dinner guest, a relaxing family meal or perhaps just to ensure an elderly family member is eating proper nutritious home cooking, Mitchells can provide the perfect meal for you. 

We are happy to take orders and can even cook meals by special request. In fact, customers have been known to bring in their own dishes for us to fill - so no-one needs to know you didn’t cook the meal yourself!

Join The Mitchells' Herd

If you are a regular at Mitchells Dairy, you will know that we have a fantastic team to be proud of - and this month, we are looking to add a couple of friendly faces to our ever-growing herd!

We are looking for a Delicatessen Counter Assistant to work at our counter which offers cheeses and cooked meats, as well as an After-School Assistant to come in and work with our friendly team in Inverurie.

So, if you are a friendly, sociable person with great customer service, these part-time positions could be a great opportunity for you to earn some extra pocket money.

And don't worry - no previous experience is required, as training will be provided!

Delicatessen Counter Assistant

Vacancy Details

• This is a part time position of around 10 hours per week, however the opportunity to pick up more hours may arise in the future. 
• Duties will involve serving customers on the deli counter, managing stock and cleaning of equipment. 
• Please note - hours are by negotiation depending on the successful candidate's availability. 
• No previous experience is required as training will be given although food handling experience would be an advantage.

After-School Assistant

Vacancy Details

• Someone aged 16 or over to work 7 hours per week after school.
• The hours would be from 4pm-5.30pm on Monday/Tuesday/Thursday and from 3pm-5.30pm on a Wednesday.
• Duties will include servicing customers, operating the till and general shop duties. 
• We will provide you with full training in these duties - so no previous experience is required.

If you have a friendly manner, a tidy appearance and the ability to provide good customer service, these positions might just be perfect for you!

Love Is In The Air At Mitchells

If you are treating your loved one to a romantic gift this Valentine's Day, there is no need to look any further than Mitchells Dairy.

We have lots of lovely things on display in the shop, including a great selection of chocolates, flowers, wine and champagne.

But that's not all. Here are just some of the special Valentine's gifts that we have on offer

We've also made a special batch of heart shaped Mitchells Oatcakes, which you can see below. Still traditionally handbaked on the premises to a recipe first used by Great Granny Mitchell in the 1920s, they are delicious with cheese, chutney, honey and soup. We hope you love them as much as we do.

Last but not least, you may recall our blog post at Christmas about the chopping boards our eldest son Hamish had been making. 

Well, he's been busy again and has added some lovely hardwood tea light holders to his range. We think they will make lovely gifts for the light in your life at Valentine's.

Oh, just one more thing. We are running a special Valentine's Day competition on Facebook to win a bottle of sparkling strawberry wine from Scottish wine producers, Cairn O'Mohr.

Mitchells' Souper Potato Recipe

Although most of the snow has shifted, it still feels like the icy cold winds could carry on much longer, so we thought it'd be a nice idea to give you a recipe to help heat you up.

We'd like to share with you our very own Tattie Soup recipe – an economical and hearty meal for those cold, winter days.

All of the ingredients used in our delicious Tattie Soup are available in our shop, The Dairy, and if you are looking for something to go along with it, we think it is very well complemented by our own Mitchell's oatcakes.

PS. If you are going to make the Tattie Soup, you might as well make a big pot, because let's face it, second day soup is always better!

Ingredients

• 2kg Potatoes 
• 4 Large Carrots 
• ½ Small Turnip 
• 1 Large Onion 
• 8oz Boiling Beef 
• 2 Stock Cubes – Beef or Vegetable 
• 1 Finely Chopped Leek
• Seasoning

Method

• Peel all vegetables. Place in a large pan and add beef and stock. Fill the pan with water. 
• Bring it to the boil. 
• Simmer for approximately 1.5 hrs 
• Take the beef out. 
• Blend the vegetables with stock to a consistency of your liking. 
• Chop the beef into pieces before putting them back in the pan. 
• Add leeks and simmer for a further 5–10 minutes. 
• Season to taste

Shake Up Your Wake Up!

It is often said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day - and at Mitchells Dairy, we couldn't agree more!

That's why from the 20th - 26th January, we will be supporting Farmhouse Breakfast Week, an annual celebration championing the importance of breakfast.

When we found out that a staggering 47% of people skip breakfast on a regular basis, we decided to support this year's campaign, Shake Up Your Wake Up.

Organised on behalf of UK cereal farmers and producers, the campaign encourages more people to enjoy a healthy and tasty breakfast.

If you want to do so, then look no further than Mitchells! 

We are open from 7.30am - 5.30pm Monday to Saturday and 11am - 4pm on a Sunday, which is perfect for a lazy Sunday brunch.

Our great selection of tasty breakfast options are made to suit - and options include hot filled rolls (bacon/sausage/egg or a combination), cereal, toast/croissants/butteries/fresh homemade scones (which vary daily and include cheese, bacon and egg), porridge and eggs/omelettes.

Or if you want to spoil yourself and forget about your diet for just one day, why not indulge in our "all day breakfast" which includes 8 items on your plate plus toast and tea or coffee?
